BIOGRAPHY

b.1966 Scotland UK.

Education - Graduate of Interior Design, Napier University, Edinburgh, Scotland in 1988.

Emigrated to Canada in 1989.

Ran to the hills in 2002.

Mostly a self-taught painter, Susan has been working in oils, using a palette knife almost exclusively, to create vibrant small and medium sized canvases since around 2007. She uses an impressionistic alla prima style with sgraffito details & both impasto and dry applications.

Focusing mainly on rural landscapes, Susan can also be inspired by vintage vehicles, animals and architecture amongst many things

Continuing with the knife-wielding creativity, Susan also enjoys exploring other mediums and produces hand-printed linocuts, as well as creating unique leather items and carved antler jewelry, all requiring the delicate use of some very sharp implements!

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Living in the woods of the Madawaska Highlands in east-central Ontario, I am continuously inspired to recreate the fleeting light & shadows of an ever-changing landscape. It is also my moral obligation to counteract the pervasive ugliness in our world!
